Date: 7 September 2010

MARK Williams is through to the last 16 of the Shanghai Masters after a lacklustre display against Ricky Walden.

Williams' positional play was poor throughout the match, but Walden failed to punish mistakes sufficiently as the Welshman won 5-3.

Elsewhere, fellow Welshman Matthew Stevens showed signs of putting a bad few years behind him with a 5-3 victory over Liang Wenbo.

Judd Trump failed to continue his recent good form as he slumped to a 5-3 defeat against Stephen Maguire.

In the closest match of the day, World Championship runner-up Graeme Dott beat 1997 World Champion Ken Doherty 5-4.
