MICHAEL Holt has won his second PTC title in two seasons after beating Dominic Dale 4-2 at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield.
The 33-year-old from Nottingham raced into a 2-0 lead with breaks of 75 and 58, and although Dale produced a strong comeback to take the match to 3-2, Holt’s run of 44 put him over the winning line.
After the final, Holt appeared pleased with his win, but expressed frustration at a lack of consistency. He said: “I’m never far away from being very good or very bad – my attitude has been terrible recently but it was a lot better here.
“Maybe the shorter matches suit me because there’s not enough time to lose my head.
“I’m good enough to do well in any event but my attitude has stunk at times. I haven’t achieved what I should have done – I’ve been in the top 32 but that’s not what I turned pro for.”
Holt has been known for his volatile temperament throughout his career, and has gained a reputation for struggling to re-focus after playing bad shots, with it often taking two or three frames for him to re-compose himself. He said: “I’ve said it before, but if I can keep a consistent temperament then I’ve still got time to achieve a lot in the game.
“This win is for my dad, as well as my manager Dave Bramley who has stuck by me.”
