RONNIE O’Sullivan has won his second PTC title of the season after beating Matthew Stevens 4-2 in the final of the Kay Suzanne Memorial Trophy at the South West Snooker Academy, Gloucester.
The event was named after the sister of promoter and manager Paul Mount, who died after a brave battle with breast cancer. All players wore pink polo shirts in aid of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Poignantly, the final fell on the fifth anniversary of ‘Beckham of the Baize’ Paul Hunter’s death. Both finalists were friends of Hunter’s, and Stevens was one of the pall bearers at his funeral.
Breaks of 95 and 76 saw O’Sullivan take a 2-0 lead, but Stevens clawed one back by winning a scrappy third frame on the colours.
O’Sullivan, who won the first PTC event in Sheffield, put himself one away from victory with a run of 53, but a superb break of 127 kept Stevens in with a chance.
The three-time world champion completed his victory with a slick break of 88, and although he failed to convert it into a century, he had done enough to give him his second PTC win of the campaign.
