NEIL Robertson completed his return to form by beating Ricky Walden 4-1 to win PTC6 in Warsaw, Poland.
The 2010 world champion has failed to win a ranking tournament since winning the World Open in September 2010, but he showed signs of a return to his best by beating Ding Junhui in the final of the third Premier League event a week ago.
Robertson came out of the blocks firing with a break of 76 in the first frame, but Walden, a Chester-based former Shanghai Masters champion, struck back in the next with a 62 to level at 1-1.
Runs of 69 and 95 gave Robertson the next two frames, and he completed his victory with a 68 clearance. After the match, the left-handed Australian admitted it had been a gruelling few days. He said: “I couldn’t have had a tougher draw as I’ve beaten the likes of Peter Ebdon, Stephen Maguire and Shaun Murphy to reach the final.
“I had been on a good run of form recently with a couple of semi-finals and I was really disappointed to lose in the semis of the Shanghai Masters. That was a wake up call because you have to be efficient in the final stages of tournaments. It’s all about winning them because that’s what you’ll be remembered for. So I’m really pleased to convert this one.
“The PTC events are tiring and you have to really keep your concentration, so when I got the semis I made sure I knuckled down and stayed focussed.”
Robertson, who has now won a ranking event in each of the last six years, moves up to fourth in the world as a result of his PTC victory.
